Fair Trading recently implemented a number of changes to the way tradespeople must run their businesses. Novascape have been affected by these changes too.
Fortunately, for you, you don’t need to do anything differently. We’ve been over our processes and made sure that we are still fully compliant with Fair Trading’s requirements.
Now, if your project is valued up to $20,000 you’ll receive a Small Works Contract from us outlining the work to be undertaken. If your project is valued over $20,000 you’ll receive a Large Works Contract with more detailed information in line with the higher value of the project.
Fair Trading has also made changes to the Home Warranty Insurance Scheme. This is now called the Home Building Compensation Fund and strengthens the protection provided to customers in the event that their tradesperson is unable to honour their commitments under a contract due to insolvency, death or disappearance. Insurance under the HBCF provides a safety net for homeowners including subsequent purchasers. As a consumer, you can now check the status of your tradesperson’s insurance and previous claims on a property through a new public register on www.hbcf.nsw.gov.au.
We’ve developed a guide to choosing a quality landscaper where you can read about how all the legal aspects of a project work. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to get in touch.
For more detailed information about these changes you can go to the Fair Trading website.
