Is your landscaper protecting your rights?
NSW Fair Trading regulates the home building industry, including landscaping, to protect you during the building process. The information they provide helps you understand your rights and responsibilities when you build, renovate or landscape.
We go to great lengths to ensure that we comply with Fair Trading regulations to protect your rights.
The most recent changes relate to the documents that your landscaper must provide to you when undertaking a landscaping project. Regardless which landscaper you choose, they must provide the following:
- A copy of their contractors licence
- A written Contract
- The Consumer Building Guide
- A Certificate of Currency for Contract Works Insurance
- A Certificate of Currency for Public Liability Insurance
- A Certificate of Currency for Workers Compensation
New Info Cards
To ensure that you are well-informed we will give you a card (see the images above) that includes this list of mandatory documents. Novascape will provide you with all of these documents. You can use this card as a guide when considering other landscapers. If they do not provide you with these documents, they may not be in a position to protect you if something goes wrong.
Fair Trading is constantly reviewing and updating various parts of its legislation. This is great for consumers as it ensures that they are protected against dodgy tradespeople. You can always find the most up to date information on the Fair Trading website at fairtrading.nsw.gov.au. Through our Important Information page we provide an overview of requirements for Licencing, Contracts, Home Building Compensation Cover, Council approval, Engineered Plans and Nominating a Certifier. These topics can be difficult to navigate if you are landscaping for the first time. The information provided will help you get comfortable embarking on a landscaping project.
When things go wrong
Sadly, from time to time, we see and hear stories of landscaping projects going horribly wrong. Here is a recent warning regarding a tradesperson in Western Sydney.
Check your tradepersons’ licence
The first thing to do to avoid a dodgy tradie is to check their licence. Completing a licence check is quick and simple:
- Go to https://www.onegov.nsw.gov.au/publicregister/#/publicregister/search/Trades
- Enter your tradepersons’ licence number or name – Novascapes’ is 215415C
