Novascape helps ‘Stomp out Stigma’

Novascape to join the Mental Health Walk of Pride

Do you know someone with a mental illness? According to Beyond Blue, it is estimated that 45% of Australians will experience a mental health condition during their lifetime. Despite this astonishing statistic, the stigma associated with mental illness can be extremely debilitating and isolating.

The Novascape team is currently 14 people strong meaning that at least six of us already have or will likely experience a mental illness. The rest of us will be impacted as friends of those with a mental illness. We feel that it is really important to help break down the stigma associated with mental illness.

At 10am on October 17 (October is Mental Health Month), we’ll be joining the ARAFMI Hunter Mental Health Walk of Pride to show our support for families, friends and carers of the mentally ill, and those with a mental illness, that they are not alone. The walk begins in Pacific Park and stomps down Hunter St to Civic Park.

We’d love to see you there on October 17. Sign up via Facebook and send us a message to let us know that you’d like to walk with us.

Walk with us on October 17 to help Stomp out Stigma

The Mental Health Walk of Pride is an annual event that brings together the community to support those with a mental illness, their carers, friends and families. Hosted by ARAFMI (The Association of the Relatives and Friends of the Mentally Ill), the event features the Walk of Pride as well as live music, pop-up entertainment, market stalls, children’s entertainment, a meditation tent and inspirational stories.

We’re proud to announce our financial support for this event. And, if you happen to visit the ARAFMI Hunter office, you might notice some beautiful new plants.
