Novascape were recently engaged to do a retaining wall rebuild at Bolwarra heights. Jake, Troy and Kieren rebuilt a 7 metre section of older style block wall with a new footing and better drainage.
The boys deconstructed the wall section, cleaned the blocks and stored them for reuse. Then, they excavated behind the wall and made space for the footing and drainage. They boys installed 4 bar trench mesh, poured a concrete slab and started resetting the blocks. As they added rows of blocks, they filled behind the wall with drainage aggregate.
When building retaining walls, we use socked drainage ag-pipe behind the wall at the base, to drain water away from behind the wall. Behind retaining walls, we fill with 10-14 drainage aggregate to allow water to move freely down to the drain to be drained away. Another important component is the geotextile that prevents soil from becoming mixed with the drainage aggregate and preventing drains from becoming blocked.
Well done guys.
