Cindy Barrett and Emma Spelman attended the “Thank you for being a Donor” evening on 20th of June at Ronald McDonald House – John Hunter Hospital.

The event was organised to say a special thank you to those individuals and companies that donated in some way to assist in improving the house. Initiated by patients earlier this year, a ground roots campaign was initiated to provide visiting families with a comfortable “Home away from home” stay whilst they going through an incredibly difficult time.

Novascape Landscaping donated their landscaping skills to re-design an area of garden that was unusable. It was turned into a beautiful levelled piece of land and turfed to join seamlessly with the existing play area. The House now has a beautiful area where older children and their families can take time out on the grass and burn some energy running around with a football. Kristin (RMH House Manager) mentioned that this had been one of the most popular additions to the house with all families commenting on what a wonderful space it is.

At the evening, we met one of the families that have benefitted from RMH and all that it does. Poppy, a beautiful little girl has been diagnosed with Leukaemia and splitting the family up for her treatments was not an option. Both mum and dad had to quit their jobs and concentrate on getting Poppy better; without all that RMH offers they do not know where they would be. They also commented on the new garden area being just perfect for their son, who loves getting out there with no shoes and having a good run around, whilst Poppy receives treatment.

We were honoured to donate our services and skills to this awesome project and proud to support RMH.
