We’ve built lots of retaining walls
We’re up to retaining wall number 326.
Over the last 10 years we’ve built up a huge amount of experience building walls with timber, blocks, rocks, sandstone, concrete and gabions. We decided to compile the most important information about the eight most common wall types to help you decide which wall type is right for you and your yard. We’ve put together information about how we build the walls, the advantages and disadvantages of each wall type as well as the relative costs of each wall.

Some interesting retaining wall facts
The most common retaining wall we build is the Segmental Block wall. These walls are easy and quick to build and offer excellent value for money. They are long-lasting and offer exceptional consistency in quality and finish.
The highest wall we’ve built is 4.4 metres high and was a timber crib wall. Here’s an example of a timber crib wall we built in Eleebana.
The longest wall we’ve built is a timber post and rail retaining wall that is 170 metres long.
The most expensive wall type that we can build is a gabion wall. These walls are often perceived as being a cheap alternative because of their appearance and relatively cheap materials. However, this wall type requires significantly more labour than other wall types. To build these walls, we also typically need machine access to move the huge volume of rock required to fill up the cages.
